Who said this show would be escapist? The good will always have their goodness; that doesn't mean that good always wins.

I hate this movie.

Michael Cera is one of my favorite comic actors, period. I don't give a shit if he plays similar characters a lot, or how anyone feels about his voice, or if a bunch of people psychotically want to punch him apparently, he is the absolute best at what he does.
Hmm. I don't care for that viewpoint. Charles Ramsey is clearly a funny guy—not funny because he's some old white fuck's idea of **"¡Other!"**, but funny because he's an affable guy saying funny things. He's funny in the same way a lot of guys I grew up with are funny, and it's probably fun for him to be in the…
Thank you for your contributions here, Tasha. I came upon the site in college, and your work, in particular the amicable disagreements in crosstalks and podcasts, shaped how I engage with pop culture and in turn who I am.
At some point in high school, Hey Jude was the exact song I needed to hear, and it's been enormously close to my heart ever since. It's one of the few songs I can play capably on piano, and by coincidence, it's the song my grandmother always asks me to play every time I come to visit—she's settled into a very…
@facebook-100001700855704:disqus Out of curiosity, do I only "scream" the capitalized NO, or do I just yell the whole darn cliche at top volume in your hypothetical conception of me?
I don't really see what the Flaming Lips have in common with Phish, other than that they are both bands that some people like and some people don't and that's fine.
This is a favorite of mine, too. I feel a little sheepish relating to it, but it totally captures the inflated stakes of learning more than your worldview can handle: you know that whatever science/philosophy/sociology you're taking in is an important evolutionary step, but crumbling schemas can feel like a deep,…
The suicide is unimpeachable. Surprising, yes, but all the more brutal for it and completely earned in retrospect. Plus, the cut to "The 80s" is the most perfect use of text in cinema history.
I believe you meant to say "a DAWES to stand on."
When I first started messing around with audio software in college, I did a pretty-decent-for-my-first-attempt mashup of Chocolate Rain and Tenacious D's Tribute. I'm still kind of proud of it, but man was there a short shelf life on that one.
We then follow the menially waged Visa employee as he/she performs administrative tasks for 70 minutes in real time.
I'd just like to say that whatever one thinks of Kevin Smith, he has a fantastic, sprawling interview with Rian Johnson on this week's Smodcast. Discussion ranges from the Bruce Willis to laser disc to Johnson's teen Christianity.
I'm sure that works too, but I just happened to notice that the site's search results list unpublished articles before there's a proper link up. Makes sense, the front page presumably goes up once all the other ducks are in a row.
This weekend I discovered the secret to firsting unpublished articles.
I love that Esquire profile of Rogers. The more I've read about him, the more I've come to appreciate his unique genius for kindness. In the same way I can hardly dream of what it's like to be an Einstein or Hawking, Rogers has a love that I can barely understand, only admire.
you can get a guitar and USB microphone for less than $40 on ebay these days, that gets you pretty far.
