For another sheer-spectacle operatic romp through a similar period, Tchaikovsky's Mazeppa is fantastic. The conclusion of the 2nd act is phenomenal, and the subsequent instrumental version of the Battle of Poltava (Ukraine vs. Sweden) is fun and reminiscent of the 1812 Overture.

I tend to go with the "house cocktail" approach if I'm hosting more than 10 people. You can even have a list of 3 or 4 if you're hosting that many people. I find it's just so much easier to prepare a couple of batches of pre-made mix ahead of time rather than trying to work your butt off making Manhattans and Cosmos…

Heh. A fair critique. No, I was trying to say that Garfield represents the rock bottom but even manages to have a basic outline with some integrity, even f those results are utter crap.

Yeah, a coherent structure of any kind would really help pull these things together. Even Garfield manages a basic exposition-setup-punchline rhythm.
