I think a lot of it's brown, for sure, but I had the luxury of playing it on my friend's big screen HDTV with component cables and all that jazz. It certainly had a limited color palate, but to me, it looked real purty. The colors were vibrant, not drab, in my experience.

It's a message board, but I'll give the AVC credit. This board tends to be a lot more level-headed than most, which is why I keep coming back.

Okay, that too. But just like Koski's dismissal of GHOSTBUSTERS, I think that superiority stems from the reviewer's understanding that they're going against the grain. What I don't get is whether or not it's genuine or manufactured dissent.

That's the point most talkbackers are making, I think: Mike doesn't say how this scene would be better if it was shot differently. He simply dissects it ten different ways. It's well-thought out, but it doesn't really answer the basic conceit of his own article: that this shot could have been better … how?

Absolutely. When I heard that EA owned the NFL-rights, my football game-lovin' self died. I've never really enjoyed Madden. Even back in the day, I preferred Joe Montana III. So I guess I'm biased, but I can at least acknowledge that the 2K teams that worked on MLB failed miserably.

Amen, brotha.

Thanks for the words. It's nice to see that I wasn't the only person who felt kind of insulted by that jab.

I have to disagree with the assertion that "for the rest of us, the shot will go unnoticed."

I agree with this slant, but I'm on a different side of it. I think EA was responsible for neutering the sports franchises on consoles. 2K Sports, however, especially early on, reinvented them and, by doing so, forced EA to up its own game.

Wow. I didn't think about this one, but yes, it is fucking incredible. I'd put it in front of a lot of the above games, but that's because I'm not really trying to make a comprehensive list that expands to many genres.

I concur. Morrowind was right up there with Fallout 3, for me. And then I killed half of the people I needed to complete the game, which kinda limited what I could do …

Honestly, a lot of these picks seem based on the innovation it brought to the videogame world (rightly so). I'd say that the Wii System should be right at the top of a list highlighting the Top 15 Industry-Changers, but I have yet to play a game on the Wii that's stolen my social life away … 'cept for ROCK BAND.

As a person who had played through both, I can quite easily say that FALLOUT 3 had its hooks in me from the get-go, and Oblivion kinda bored me.

err … soda machine

Yeah, thanks for that clip … although my favorite was the kid somehow flipping headfirst over his own bike for no discernible reason. And damn, does that soda ever throw a pitch into the strike zone? It's looser than Rick Vaughn.

ROBOCOP 2?
C'mon! You folks just gushed about how awesome the Robocop films were in that list about movies that you can't NOT watch if you happen to catch them on.

I had the opportunity to gush and be psychotic with Keenan when he popped into a lil' restaurant my girlfriend and I were eating at in Jerome, AZ, but I decided against it, because well … he doesn't know me at all, and he was eating breakfast, and he was with his girlfriend, discussing what sounded like business …

He wrote most of the good episodes during season 1. Later on, according to the episode list on Wikipedia, his influence died off … probably because they wanted to make the show more kid-friendly and lame.

The first season of that cartoon was awesome, because it was pretty witty and dark for a kid's show. Sandman and Samhain were some creepy-ass cartoons. Especially the voice for Sandman … what a wonderful piece of voice acting, there.

See also the BOONDOCK SAINTS II review … I'm not a big fan of the film (it was a fun way to pass a couple of hours), but the review was about as condescending as a review can get. The holier than thou attitude gets on my nerves, but all in all, the AVC is still my favorite review site.
