Funny, I pictured Dowd as a grumpy older man, like well into middle age. Huh

Things I love about the Shining #543: The use of the song "Midnight, the Stars, and you", particularly how it haunts the scene with Grady and Jack in the background. Then when it's in the credits, with the audience clapping at the end.
Yes! Although I've always preferred their more hopeful, less dark stuff like "Heaven or Las Vegas" or "Four-Calendar Cafe" - "Bluebeard" is my pick for the most simply, utterly beautiful song ever.
Well yeah, torture porn is complete crap (well, most of it anyway). Supernatural & psychological horror is definitely a step above slasher films when it comes down to it. It's far scarier when you're imagining the horror of what is going on in the film (e.g. The Shining, particularly that shot of Jack looking up, I…
Let me just say, as much as I love the creeping suspense of Hitchcock and Carpenter, I fucking love me some high body-count, hyper violent slasher films (e.g. Friday the 13th).
"Come and play with us Danny, forever and ever and ever" - "I wish we could stay here forever, and ever, and ever": blows me away every time the many ways in which Kubrick makes us question exactly what's going on in the hotel. My favourite film.
What on earth are they going to title the porn parody version??? What a conundrum! "Masters of SeXXX - a XXX Porn parody"
Monk in Motian by Paul Motian is a beautiful tribute, really interesting interpretations of songs like Evidence & Ruby My Dear. Bill Frisell, Joe Lovano, Dewey Redman, Geri Allen - an amazing lineup too!
Bullshit, snobby, ignorant way to dismiss a whole heap of music there, friend!
Yep, this site's gone downhill since those writers left (you know the ones). This doesn't have that much to do with this particular article, but it jumped into my mind reading this article that things have gradually changed for the worse. This article is ridiculous - it implicitly criticises other articles for giving…
Oh my god I love that Book of Angels one, especially the first track (Mastema) where Antonio Sanchez's drumming is insane - it really reminds me of Sean Reinert and the song actually has a lot of similarities to the great stuff Cynic are doing these days (Btw when the fuck is that new album coming out?).
I LOVE Near Dark/Point Break, and found Zero Dark Thirty and, especially, Hurt Locker to be very overrated, simplistic, and maddeningly conventional. ZDT is so frustrating - it has great potential, but then ends up feeling like a dumbed down revenge story. Few of the characters have much depth, especially Maya, and…
Keg beer's for pussies!
I felt the show was a little too pleased with itself with all these in-jokes/tv references: so what if that's Brian Grazier in the scene, that's not in itself funny?! Some good jokes but overall a pretty weak episode.
Someone's in the Wolf, You Never Came - fucking amazing. Need to re-listen to that one
1976 was a ridiculously good year for film, as that video demonstrates; that's why he missed out a few times.
Have you seen the trailer? I loved the Pusher trilogy and Bronson, but it feels like this is just gonna be completely mindless and leave a bad taste in your mouth. I tend to like ultra-violent films, no problem there, but I can see this being pretty shitty. And I don't think D'Angelo is some judgemental prude or…
A lot of great bands have assholes…The Smiths, Burzum, Leviathan etc. I think you can divorce the people in the band from the music, but sometimes it's hard
Liturgy (the album) was fucking great, I say! A very creative, interesting and fun black metal album- if you're not a purist, it's not hard to enjoy the album. This might be due in part to the drummer they had at the time (Greg Fox), who is ridiculously talented (I think he's in Zs now). Fuck the purists!
One of them says he called up the hotel in question and found out it does actually have a room 237, and not the one from the book. Although he could have made that up.
