I'm from Chicago and some days I just listen to Portland by The Replacements on repeat.

When it spoofed James Bond was pretty spooky.

No love for Friday the 13th? Either the opening of Part 6 (Frankenstein-like resurrection of zombie Jason) or the opening of the remake (basically parts 1 and 2 condensed into an extended pre-credits sequence) would fit nicely on this list.

Essentials: Fevers and Mirrors, Lifted, I'm Wide Awake, and Digital Ash.

Pink Rabbits and City Middle do it for me.

"Trailer Trash" by Modest Mouse. Specifically when the guitar solo peaks at the end.

I thought it was "No Fucking Straight edge."

The other things were just supporting the claim that it was pretentious. But I agree with you that people should be ready to support the claim if they make it. It's become pretty common for people to use "pretentious" as a criticism of something currently cool that they simply didn't understand, though I think it's a

Why can't a work be pretentious? Maybe this one's been kicked around too much, but the movie Crash is pretentious. I have no idea if Paul Haggis is (never met the guy). But that story appears to say more about race in America than it actually does. The form of it is more complicated and expansive than the story

It's like when someone is discussing literary criticism and asks "what does calling a work of art pretentious actually say about the work?" Which seems momentarily like a serious question, before you consider that pretentious has a pretty straightforward definition.

I specifically said to disregard the selling out argument and focus on the boring music. That they've released 4 albums since Searching For… and all anyone is mentioning here is TDB kind of supports my point. 25% does not exactly suggest a strong run of albums.
I agree that sell out complaints are kind of ridiculous.

The theater experiences that have been most enjoyable for me are the ones where the environment matches the film. Seeing Interstellar in 70mm IMAX was great. Same for Gravity in IMAX 3D. But seeing Grindhouse at the decrepit Campus Cinemas in DeKalb, IL with an alcohol fueled crowd, or Freddy vs Jason at the drive-in

I was considering buying the blurays the other day while buying the Force Awakens, and thought, "fuck this." If I'm going to pay for these movies one more time It's going to be for the not bullshit version. Same goes for this release. Disney has to recognize that is where the real money is, right? Right!?

My wife is from Rockford and though the city seems supportive (there was a Rick's Picks exhibit for some reason at the natural history museum where we got married), but whenever they come up in conversation everyone seems pretty lukewarm on them. I could take them or leave them, personally.

Not disagreeing with the broader point, but didn't it come out in 87-88?

Really surprised to not see Gullible's Travels. Dan Murphy didn't write often, but between that and Cartoon knocked out two of their best songs.

Jesus, when I posted this morning I don't think I'd processed that it came out in 2000. I was still in high school, so that makes sense. The period of time when I was really paying attention to what was going on in the music scene would have been '98-'06, so I guess I just lump that together as a very self-centered

Pretty good album. But am I alone in thinking Single File by The Honor System was the best Chicago punk album from this era?

I'm just here to share how much I liked Cloud Atlas.

I'd say New Nightmare, 1, 2, 3, FVJ, 4, 5, Dead
