It used to be 'their' night, didn't it? The networks used to either air football or family-friendly stuff and there was nothing on cable.
I didn't watch it until afterward, but I remember a lot of speculation about the occult imagery in the show hinting at some supernatural reveal at the end. Would have been interesting if that had come to pass, but it also probably would have soured people on the show.
Maybe they figure there are two types of HBO Go users: people who are keeping up with current shows, and people catching up on the back catalogue.
