Sounds like they take issue with it being billed as a horror movie, and that SpongeBob creeps them out more than the trailer did.

Trendpieces about whatever wacky thing Millenials are up to this week are usually about a very narrow (white, upper/upper-middle class, urban-dwelling, college educated, etc; basically a younger version of the author) slice of the generation.
