This is a really interesting point of view, Philip: how willing are we to take exploitative techniques in films? (Clearly not so much in your case.)

Grammar corrections.

It's not would of that is acceptable; it's would've. Just because they sound similar doesn't mean you have to get it wrong in text.

Great call on Amstell, GhaleonQ. I know they're British and this is an American site, but undoubtedly the best recorded comedy I've seen/heard this year have been Stewart Lee's If You Prefer a Milder Comedian, Please Ask For One (though his 90s Comedian disc is probably a better place to start) and Tim Key's Tim Key.

There, there: you could do with a cup of tea and a nice sit down.

Yes, it's clearly ripping on John Cage, but surely it's also a comment on the bullshit of the Charity Single and a blindingly obvious reference to the traditional silence at 11 on 11/11.

It is unsurprising
How shit all but two (generous) of these songs are.

Surely the kitchen-sink drama is primarily the responsibility of Arnold Wesker, who's play The Kitchen features an actual kitchen sink (and actual working class "scum"). Stephen Patrick Morrissey comes quite a long time after Corrie…

Zing.

I had
a great time seing Pavement in London and at ATP this year. Also, this review was incredibly boring, made worse by the name-calling at the end. Pisspoor, in fact.

Well, on balance I'd say Acoyer deserved that.

Du forstar inte svenska? Vilken javla skitstovel!

"yet accessible and sympathetic"
Your comment here makes for an interesting debate - I think you're right about the coldness of the original Oskar, but I don't think it makes it a less good portrayal. Aren't lonely people - especially children - informed by their circumstances often withdrawn and a little cold? Is

Toy Story 3…
…is bullshit. You think that reheated toss is better than The Illusionist, you're…well…wrong.

"Cusack gets a lifetime pass from me, but that doesn't excuse bullshit like Hot Tub Time Machine. "

I enjoyed that
Nothing much to add - just a thank-you to Sam Adams for the interesting read.

I love The Gloaming. My problem with Torean's assertion was definitely The Beatles.

Fair enough if it's not for you, Henrique, but if you're saying it isn't a big, bold album lyrically and sonically (for better or worse) I have to disagree.

Tim Canterbury!
The Canterbury Tales!
Chaucer!
