Yeah, I'm not sure the inconsistencies with the detective are Noah & Alison changing stories. I think there are multiple cases where the detective has tried to play up to them, talking about his wife/ ex-wife and the kids he loves/ never sees.

Can you imagine Alison saying, "And so, while he was going down on me, the phone rings…"
