Considering how Betty and Rita react during the scene, I think terror or at least fear is part of Lynch's intention. It is certainly an overwhelming scene.

My only wish is that the article had mentioned the use of Benjamin Britten's music here. The use of Britten in the movie was genius.

Nothing is good or bad, but thinking makes it so.

I sympathize with the interviewer though. If he had said it, the segment probably wouldn't have aired, and he might have gotten in trouble.

Moonrise Kingdom was my favorite film of the year, but it's hard for me to pick a single scene out from the bunch. If I had to pick one, it would be either the montage of letter writing or the climax at the top of the church, which was beautifully photographed.
