I've been meaning to check out Ancillary Justice, since everyone made such a fuss about it, but hadn't gotten around to it yet. Any particular reason why you didn't connect with it?

I read Lois McMaster Bujold's Chalion series this year. She's an author I'd been meaning to check out for a while, and I finally got around to it because some of her books showed up in a really nice ebook sale.

I just can't seem to read as fast as he writes. I like his stuff, but he's not a favorite of mine, so every time I think to check up on his latest I find that I'm 3 or 4 books behind.

Some people seem to get thrown by the way Gaimain's books jump around in terms of tone, but I love his stuff. Coraline is my favorite of his, but it's so creepy that I can't bring myself to give it to any of my younger relatives, even though they're technically in the right age range for it. I'd highly recommend

Have you read The Forever War? That's one of my favorite sci fi classics. Some of the gender politics end up being a little weird, but overall it's aged fantastically.

Grendel was the book that I initially enjoyed until my English teacher beat it to death.

I got about 100 pages in, but found that I still just didn't care about any of the characters, so I gave up. Like you, I keep revisiting it because of who recommends it and what books it's compared to, but I think it's just not to my taste.

If I've been waiting for a year or more to find out what happens next, then I definitely get the books when they come out. I frequently pre-order ones I'm really looking forward to.

I think differences in cultures and values account for a lot of it. That's the aspect of the Odyssey that I was struck by when I read it in school, and that I wish we'd discussed.

It's one of my favorite holiday songs by far.

These sorts of conspiracy theories always assume that the government is capable of organizing and maintaining a conspiracy. Has anything in our recent history made people think that the US government has its shit together well enough to pull off something like that?

One of my friends is the daughter of Nobel Laureate quantum physicist. When he won the Nobel, I went to a public lecture he gave about his research, because I figured that if I know someone with a Nobel, I should know what it was they did to get it. I followed along with every single step of his lecture, feeling

Yeah, that's the one.

I remember finding All Dogs Go to Heaven really upsetting, but I don't remember any of the specifics of why at this point (except that it presumably involves some dog death).

I never saw the Black Cauldron movie, but I love those books. Did you feel like it was sort of its own thing, or was it a good adaptation?

Whatever you do, don't watch Inside Out, then.

That boy from About A Boy who's now the Beast in the X-Men movies? I'm too lazy to look up a name.

To the point where on Forever Young Adult they just refer to him as "Hot Neville".

I loved the ending - agree with you there. I'm just going to be really disappointed if the second movie is what they were teasing it to be (<spoilers> a former ally becomes the new big bad after he has a philosophical awakening </spoilers>), because it's such a waste of the premise. If you're going to make a Dr

There was so little reaction to Jake calling Holt "dad" that I actually thought I'd misheard it.
