This movie is cool, but I actually prefer the short "Five Feet High and Rising". The actors are younger, so the romance between them plays out like a Lower East Side version of Sam and Cindy in "Freaks and Geeks".

I think the Fellini movie I Vitelloni was one of the first to do a movie like this, about an ensemble of characters in a small town. Its an awesome movie.
