Ran a "gothic fantasy" game of D&D (no, not Ravenloft, honest). Haven't played much the last few months, so it felt good to get back behind the screen and roll those polyhedrons.

I love that the Hammer films focused on the doctor instead of the monster. And really doubled down on what an unrepentant, sleazy asshole Dr. Frankenstein was.

I went digging. It's apparently available in a Waldrop anthology that I may have to buy immediately, or sooner.

Usually people say that to me after I've told them I'm an atheist. I always thank them. If they want to waste their time, more power to 'em. And it's a nice gesture, in its way.

I tend to think most of the charges were trumped up as part of a land-grab, but even if a fraction of them are true, that guy was one horrifying individual. I don't think you could get away with doing that stuff to children, even via suggestion rather than explicit action, in a film that was in any way marketable.

It's systemic and baked into the culture. I worked retail for over a decade, and the way that customers would relate to my co-workers who were women as opposed to me boggled my mind. They had to put up with so much more shit than I did every day. And it was a bookstore, so at the very least everyone who came in was

That's neither what I said nor what I meant, but what the heck, I'll agree with you.

Unfilmable! If any of that stuff is accurate, anyway.

The HPLP is one of the best things ever, man. Most podcasts I listen to and then delete. Those guys I listen to 'em over and over again. I'm a subscriber too, because I find the show just that good.

Frankenstein's Monster going full pulp? Holy fuck why am I now just learning of this? So, does he, like, fight dinosaurs and shit?

L'il Punk did mention Dracula's son, so then I asked "Alucard?" but he never played Castlevania II so my wit was wasted upon him.

Oh good, I'm glad I'm not completely out of touch.

Don't you mean "The Shinning?"

I've read and re-read Lovecraft so much, I am now doing Lovecraft-adjacent fiction. I'm even reading (gasp!) August Derleth stories.

This I was surprised to learn. There is a wolfman, though, right? It can't be a real monster party without at least the triumvirate there.

Having not read one in over thirty years, that would be my lingering impression as well.

"I don't understand how he won. I don't know a single person who voted for Nixon."

The racists came out in droves when Obama won. Expect the sexists to do the same when Clinton wins.

I caught the second episode of Candle Cove late on Saturday night. It's the only episode I've seen, but judging by this one, the fact that I missed the first episode probably doesn't mean a damn.

I don't think so? The rabbit only vamps out on vegetables, and the dog and the cat never get any definitive proof of even that. It's a fun silly little story told from the POV of animals. Reread it yourself and see if it would work for your kid.
