but McPhee is a Special Snowflake of Specialness! How can you reject her, just like that?

I think that because the show was so good about not using autotune, when they did use it, it was exceptionally jarring. McPhee's voice doesn't need any enhancement to sound great.

I never thought I'd say this, but…the show officially has someone worse than Zoey.

TEAM KATHARINE MCPH—hahahahaha, I'm sorry, I just couldn't say that with a straight face.

Hey, it's Zaf from Spooks as the Obviously Gay Boyfriend! Aside from McPhee, the cast looks promising. (And even McPhee wasn't that bad)

Curly-Haired Assistant will get together with Gay Songwriter but then Curly-Haired Assistant will sue for a cut of the profits of the Marilyn musical (because it was His Idea) and there will be DRAMATIC TENSION.

Totally agree! And the horribly auto-tuned version of "Beautiful" that was supposedly amazing didn't help McPhee's cause any. It's like the show forgot the first rule of storytelling: show, don't tell.

He *remembers* me!

I thought that storyline was just establishing that Jack Davenport's character is a  huge douchebag?

Megan Hilty, right? We're supposed to root for Megan Hilty?

Watched the Smash pilot on Hulu the other day. I…actually kind of liked it.

"Exact! Same! Spot!"

Jasika Nicole's performance was wonderfully authentic. That being said, the autistic-people-are-precog-geniuses trope needs to stop. It's insulting and patronizing, and this generation's version of the Magical Negro. (I understand that the writers are to blame here, not Nicole, but still.)

Actually, the image that was replaced was of the "Night Stalker", an infamous LA serial killer from the 80s, and IIRC the show's staff didn't want Michael Cudlitz to be mistakenly associated with him.

jesus christ, I felt dirtier just watching the show. if a cop ever asks why everyone hates them, I'll point them to this episode.

NBC marketing exec: "How do we get the word out about an alternate-universe retelling of the Biblical story of King David? Oh, I know! Let's put pictures of orange flags everywhere. That'll totally get people interested."

esta muerta is the correct form, actually

or won't?

Man, y'all are way too decent people. I just want some good TV. I'd wish for Amy Sherman-Palladino to have finished Gilmore Girls the way it was supposed to be finished, and not the horrible and depressing antithesis of itself that it turned into.
