Yeah, props to the props people on the show, they've really gone the extra mile in making the gore realistic.

Yes, please. The "detective" segments are starting to get a little boring compared to the beat cop segments, in site of King's best efforts. (Although, maybe that's how it usually is IRL?) Still, it wouldn't hurt the show to let her be a badass more often.

A commenter over at TWoP mentioned that Carl Lumbly's character is supposed to be based on former LAPD Chief Bernard Parks, which, given Southland's tendency to turn into Former LA Cop Stories: The Show, seems entirely likely.

Yeah, McKenzie's sudden cynicism was completely unearned. When you make a huge deal out of his by-the-book idealism in "Wednesday", you can't turn around in the next episode and have him play the complete opposite.
