This might be the best O'Neal post I've ever read.

Yup, and my point is that the vague promise of the reveal of a back story doesn't necessarily compensate for what has felt to me personally as a present lack of characterization.

I'm not talking about her back-story.

Yes, that's exactly what happened. I just don't feel her reluctance from that point to where she is now has been earned.

I get that. I'm saying your use of the word "probably" illustrates the weakness of the writing of the character. Her motivation should be more assured, even if it's mysterious or ambiguous, than, "she was probably bored," ya know?

Whoa, Gwenno, try not being suck a dick, please. No, I don't need any characters to stare into the screen and explicitly explain herself to the audience, thanks. I actually have been paying attention throughout each episode (as opposed to half watching, half masturbating to Ming-Na Wen, like some people apparently do,

I actually had that exact thought before typing what I did, but ultimately I chose her as the female Fritz and not vice versa because I feel like we've heard from him more than Simmons.

I'm not talking about her back-story, I'm referring to why she went from the desk job to being on Coulson's team in the pilot episode. This isn't a mythology thing, it's a "Why is this happening now," thing.

Fair enough, but I still don't buy why she came on to "drive the bus" in the first place. It just feels contrived to me at present and I hope it's addressed soon.

I get that. But the fact that there's no indication of why she's there in the first place renders her willingness to disobey Coulson as somewhat hollow. For me anyway.

I don't dispute that May is "ready for action," but her transition from desk jockey back to field agent has been unfounded. Sitting on the sidelines is exactly what she says she specifically wanted and now all of a sudden she's back in the saddle ready to have Coulson and the team's back. I don't see how she got from

And now I just imagined Ward crying uncontrollably after overhearing Coulsen and Givens getting along and seeing Skye swoon for Raylan. Thank you.

That's my issue: I feel like the writers have placed the burden on the viewers to fill in these blanks they've created. It's their responsibility to do that, not ours. I don't necessarily want it spelled out for me or anything, and I like TV which asks me to work a bit harder than the average show, but there's a fine

Right? She's so…ornery. And not in a cool Raylan Givens kinda way. I'm not gonna write anything off yet, not until the first season's complete, but yeah, she's my least favorite so far.

One thing I did like: the "watching Mommy and Daddy fight" line from Skye.

"Are your agents making TOO MUCH NOISE? Why are you SO stupid? Try Coulson Mittens!"

Random interruption — just wanted to say that in addition to AVC, I also love io9, but I generally see AVC as "The Professionals," whereas when it comes to reviews I generally see io9 as more fans than critics — although Meredith Woerner's True Blood reviews are comedic gold and I highly value Charlie Jane Anders

Oh my god, thank you! I did the exact same thing, it's got to be among the all-time laziest pieces of writing in existence.

Sorry, I honestly couldn't tell.

That's cool, I'm glad it works for someone. I'm all for show and don't tell, but honestly I don't understand her motivation. What has she communicated in terms of her motivation? I get she has respect for Coulson and apparently feels some sort of responsibility to help out or something, but she was established as
