Perhaps it's not that some fans are going "overboard" with
their defense of the book but that it's generally considered to be a classic in the genre by a (Titanic-sized) boatload of people. A quick search on the interwebs for "best science fiction novels ever" lends credence to this notion.

Your definition of "snappy" smells suspiciously like douchebaggery to me.

Nahh… Bowie had some gems in the 80s.

I'll never understand this notion that Lou Reed was somehow "cool" because he wore sunglasses, did copious amounts of drugs and was generally regarded as one of the biggest douchebags in music.

I, for one, would like to know how long we should respectfully wait before disrespecting.

Ramsay may be more charismatic when he's not tearing people a new one, but he's more entertaining when he does.

And somehow that makes things better? An asshole is an asshole — admittedly or not.

"I know."

Hmmm… exploitive vs.exploitative. The debate begins!

I think you'll find that the general consensus is that the AC is superior to the TC of Alien 3. Personally, I find that the AC adds clarity to the story and motivations behind some of the characters. Also, the ending of the TC always seem a bit too convenient to me — a queen alien popping out of her chest in mid-dive?

Granted, the first film does have pacing issues, but it definitely has an epic atmosphere that the sequels failed to capture.

What did he say when you told him you liked Halloween III? I'm curious to know what his impressions of the film were.

Apparently, Hellraiser: Revelations (the ninth in the series) was filmed in a few weeks and released only so the Weinstein Company could retain the rights to the franchise (e.g. an ashcan project).

The Assembly Cut of Alien 3 is the only version I'll watch — and it's actually a pretty damn fine movie.

"First Contact" is certainly the best of the TNG films but the only TOS films I think it exceeds in quality would be V.

… but still look fake.

Let's break this down:

I wish I could take full credit for that pun but I hadn't noticed it until you pointed it out.

By "dated" I mean that those special effects from '82 don't hold up to the same scrutiny today that they did upon its initial release. By "scrutiny" I am implying the relative realism of the effect. It's subjective perhaps, but I can't help but be distracted by how fake the effects look — though I still enjoy the heck

I'm going to be "that guy" and suggest that Kerry King sounds like a blithering meathead. Dowd was basically feeding him responses and King still failed to add any valuable insights or, at the very least, remotely amusing anecdotes anywhere in the interview. Very, very disappointing.
