Kids shows don't need to be anything but "very, very mediocre". They're basically advertisements for toys.

Because there are plenty of examples of sci-fi shows that have lasted 10 seasons, spawned successor series, have rabid fanbases, yearly conventions and have built a very rich mythology to play in. The fact that a sci-fi show with a fairly significant per episode budget could sustain itself for as long as it did
