Amen brother. To me De La Soul has proven that it's possible to age gracefully in a culture as youth-obsessed as hip hop. Incidentally Noel is "Grind Date" one of the albums that disappointed you or had you checked out on the fellas before then? Good call on Darondo. That song always breaks my heart. In a good way.

That new kid Murray
Whatever happened to him?

Classic SNL posts started during the strike. I wrote up the first episode back and we're definitely considering adding new SNL to the mix. Nothing's definite though, in part because I like not having to work on the weekends.

You sexist fucking pig
Couldn't help but throw in that last stray observation, could you? You disgust me.

is all kinds of awesome.

Deep Cover is awesome, as is this film. I even have a soft spot for "The Big Bounce" which is ramshackle and half-assed in a most delightful way. And that cast! Armitage should definitely make more movies.

Incidentally
I'm thinking about starting a band just so I can call it Gay Karate Man or Boing Boing Boing

The Coup
I can't recommend "Genocide & Juice" highly enough. It's out of print but well worth tracking down. You can't go wrong with any of the Coup's albums though. They're all pretty fucking brilliant.

Definitely one to consider.

All fine suggestions. If you dig the Bloom I recommend Joyce Maynard's memoir: big revelation: J.D Salinger is a dick. Also he's really into eighteen-year-old girls who look like boys and are physically incapable of vaginal sex. Or maybe I've/she's said too much.

I remember Letterman describing him as a "retarded chimpanzee" which made me both laugh and want to see the movie. This definitely might be fodder, except it's got a pretty solid reputation.

Eh, I plan to cover some pretty interesting books in this feature. It won't all be smartass takedowns. Just mostly smartass takedowns.

I plan to either read books I've never read before for this feature or re-read old books but the prospect of slogging six hundred pages of sordid self-aggrandizement from Ms. Philips a second time is a little too much for even me to bear. I'm about halfway through with the follow-up now though and I can't wait to

I definitely intend to read this book, possibly for this feature, possibly not.

Yeah, that was one terrible book I couldn't put down. Didja know it was the "Sabotage" video that turned the Beastie Boys into big stars and not, I dunno, that first album of theirs that sold 18 million copies? That's something I totally learned from "Rebels on The Backlot". Incidentally I'm going to try to steer

You're embarrassing me. Even more so than usual. Can't you at least ply your trade elsewhere?

Thanks for the info. I had fairly high hopes for this episode but they were dashed fairly quickly.

Wow
this piece is poorly proof-read. If you ever need a copy-editor who lives inside your skin and shares your social security number/fumbling way with the English language you should look me up.

Ebay and Amazon are my two main sources. I'm currently contemplating whether to pluck down 33 bucks for a copy of Klaus Kinski's famously loco autobiography.

I tried to find
a clip of this promo on Youtube but came up short. Does anyone know where this short might be found online?
