Mifune was perfect (I think this and I Live in Fear are my two favortie performances) but I really loved Setsuko Hara as it was a very different role for her. If I ever got one film wish, I would hope they find the lost footage for this movie.
This show is pure uncut mediocrity. Yet with shows like Hostages (Axe Cop except with less plausible characters and more ridiculous plots) and Dads in existence, this is nowhere near LCD.

Yeah I agree with your assessment of Tourneur and Stars in My Crown is a overlooked masterpiece. It is one of my favorite movies. IMO, Canyon Passage and Witchita are among the best Westerns.
Has A&E or TLC replaced the standard does MTV still play music anymore jokes? I am assuming TLC because they may have shown some shows with educational merit at some point whereas I doubt A&E ever showed anything that was entertaining or had artistic value.

Criterion released a copy a few years ago on DVD and it is available on Hulu Plus.
How was Donald Richie's book? I have considered reading it but haven't found the time.
I am going to go with either Justified or Kobayashi's The Human Condition. I am not sure why I waited so long to watch both of these as both are outstanding.
