I was originally planning to do something like that (or do the kielbasa and cabbage together), but it's a zillion degrees out, and it seemed completely wrong to be eating so cold-weather-ish. The slaw was a nice solution to "it's too hot to eat a sausage-and-cabbage dish, but I want to be eating sausage and cabbage."
Correction — THAT is THE WORST. The re-biting. ::shudder::
Oh man, hot peppers. ::long, dreamy sigh:: I grow a whole bunch of varieties every year, but frequently forget which ones are which before the fruits come in. But last year I grew a Hinkelhatz pepper, which is an heirloom Amish variety that's in the Slow Foods Ark of Taste (that might be the most insufferably…
Introducing adult cats to each other is always such a stressful, horrible thing. I had one who was so terrible (she snarls really loudly, like a cougar or something, and when she would fight with the other cats there would literally be tufts of fur flying through the air) that we were right on the brink of having to…
Skip Hollandsworth! If I see his name on Longform.org, I know I've got a great afternoon of reading ahead of me.
I don't want to actually write out an estimate for the people potentially monitoring my internet usage right now to see.
My friend's kids are playing with Legos now and it's been my first exposure to the current generation of them. They really are all specialized! Man, back in my day we had squares and rectangles, and that was good enough for us. ::waves cane crankily:: ::sighs:: Yeah kids, you know the deal — lawn, off.
Comcast did that at some indeterminate time in the last year or so in my area, too. What had been a perfectly cromulent internet situation suddenly made it so I couldn't upload more than one photo to Flickr at a time. We went for months wondering why YouTube kept defaulting to the "you have a shitty internet…
That is not a petty issue. That is THE WORST.
Last night I made this completely amazing slaw for dinner (among some other things — kielbasa and some oven fries of potatos and zucchini), and it has changed my life. I don't ever want to not be eating this slaw ever again. Suddenly the glut of cabbages I've gotten out of my garden seems like a blessing rather than…
I saw Buke & Gase open for Tomahawk and they were completely awesome. I was ready to resist a Brooklyn-based duo that makes their own hybrid instruments (baritone ukulele and guitar/bass) just on principle, but they completely blew me away. And their albums are just as good as their live performance. Everyone…
I also didn't really get the ending of Bioshock Infinite. I mean, yeah, I understood what happened, but it didn't blow my mind or anything. I kind of shrugged off the "oooh, Big Ideas!" aspect of it and instead opted for a giddy high from how fun the game was. (Yes, I'm the kind of person who reads books for plot.)
Congratulations on all the great news, @avclub-ae1846aa63a2c9a5b1d528b1a1d507f7:disqus!
I loathe the tyranny of "God Bless America" during 7th inning stretches. The last time I was at a MLB game (admittedly a few years ago, so I don't know if this is still the case) the announcer actually instructed the fans to stand and remove their hats for it, too. For fuck's sake, that is not the National Anthem,…
My sister and I used to want to start a grassroots "Take Back The Game" movement, where sporting events would be stripped of too-loud shitty pop music and all the "what the fans need to be entertained is constant sensory stimuli!" bells and whistles. Also, Thunderstix would be banned. Perhaps Huey Lewis can take up…
The fakes are great, but my favorite part of Antiques Roadshow is when people who think they have something that will finance their retirements find out it is really worth something, but not something huge. It's such a delight to watch people try to look chipper as they say they're ever so pleased to be told they…
Yeah, there's a reason I only buy shoes about once every five years. Those things aren't cheap, yo!
Oooh, very classy!
Oh, I'm not worried.
