For a Hemingway-ish tie-in with this topic, polydactyl cats were considered especially good at being ship's cats because there was some thought that the extra toes gave them better balance. Clearly whoever came up with that theory never met my six-toed cat; she's so uncoordinated and spazzy she wouldn't last an hour

So nice to see a fellow Voice enthusiast here! I agree on all counts, especially the outrage at the guy who sang "Pretty Woman". What a terrible, terrible song choice. Actually, it seems like a lot of people are picking songs that seem like awful audition pieces this season, but that was one of the worst examples

As a fan of the highbrow art of slapstick, I consider that time I slipped on a banana peel one of my life's greatest accomplishments. I was getting out of my car in a parking deck, put my foot down without looking, and WHOOSH! — my foot had flown out in front of me and I fell back into the seat of my car. It was

Yoshi is the best, and his ridiculous vocalizations are the best, and frankly, all these Yoshi haters can go fuck themselves.

My garden is starting to get that "high summer" overgrown look to it. The tomatoes are all towering (and covered with green fruits; I think the first cherry tomatoes should be getting red in a week or two), the pepper plants all have tiny peppers, the cucumber is covered with gherkin-sized picklers. It's so

I'm the same way. Everyone else here is showering their fellow drivers with colorful invective and I'm all, "Have a nice day, person who is clearly in a big hurry! I hope you make it in time to whatever's so important!"

My farmshare has started up, so for the first time in quite a while I'm excited to be cooking again. We had stir-fry with chicken and baby bok choy last night, and I'll be making stuffed shells to use up the spinach tonight. I'm swimming in strawberries all of a sudden, too, so I've got plans to make Smitten

Hey, I'll have you know that there are, by my count on this site, at least TWO Devils fans, including me. So there!

I'm the shut-in next door, who watches everything through binoculars peering out from between the drawn curtains.

That was my next choice.

Congrats on getting the garden up and running! I wish you'd told me about cucumbers and celery being companion plants, though — I put mine on opposite ends of the garden. :)

Yeah, Joey.blowey's right — just buy it from the store. Cilantro is such a pain in the ass, and it bolts so quickly that it rarely seems worth trying to grow. I've given up on growing it deliberately and am trying to get it to seed itself in the paths between my garden beds and just volunteer all summer.

I'm working, of course. ::shifty eyes::

I know, right? I love how universal and timeless the "animal miserable at having to wear people clothes" thing is. I want to go home and shove my cats into doll clothes now. (No wonder my cats hate me!)

I'm eating a steady diet of Causa Sui today — "Summer Sessions" (Vols. 1, 2, and 3) and "Euporie Tide". It's way, way better music than my blah day deserves.

HISTORIC LOLCATS THREAD

My favorite completely site-specific experience was a random vacation day spent at Old Sturbridge Village. That is not my favorite place on all the earth just on principle, but make it that perfect, first really nice spring day in May, with the trees just budding enough that they're taking on a fuller green look, and

Sorry, I've been all distracted and didn't see your response… Thanks! And the tomato ladders are THE BEST. They're from Gardeners Supply and CANNOT BE BEAT. I highly recommend them. They sell them in a variety of sizes, so we've got these ginormo ones, but they have shorter ones for more compact or container

We had an absolutely gorgeous weekend last week and were able to get everything planted. The tomato seedlings were definitely not happy in their seedling pots, but we did manage to salvage one of each of 12 types we started; now I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that all they needed was real soil and abundant

For some reason I read that as a cheese cleanse. And was thinking, "Well damn! Finally a cleanse for me!"
