Shyamalan has the same career trajectory as Kevin Smith. He coasted for a while on an early success, but his subsequent failures have added up to the point that his failings as a filmmaker are suddenly apparent even in that first hit. And now apparently he's making films in a shared universe, too.
I think pacing is one of his biggest weaknesses. Unbreakable, which should have been fun, was ponderous and slow, full of boring slow-zooms on a non-emoting Bruce Willis.
