I agree, and in that respect I think Kirk is sort of similar to Harry Potter. Neither is all that inventive or intelligent, but they make good use of their friends who are, and they're typically bold enough to try things that might not be the greatest ideas if you thought too hard about them, but they still manage to

If you're disappointed with the way TNG handled the Borg menace - never, ever, EVER watch Voyager.

I'm rewatching the series for the first time to go along with the reviews here, and the clues really are great - especially if you know what's coming later. I think a lot of it sort of went over my head the first time because Star Trek was always throwing around names of other civilizations that you would never hear

One of the things that I liked about the show. Also, it seemed semi-regular that they would go traipsing around some alien world and someone would die of a horrific biological infection or beesting because our immune systems are totally unprepared for an entirely different ecosystem.

And yet it sounds like a word someone who has no familiarity at all with the process would just invent on the fly - "What do ya call the guy who's in charge of putting together a TV show, you know, he makes sure things run, like some kind of showrunner or something but less stupid than that?"

Totally agree. I was not a big fan of Voyager but Picardo was head and shoulders above the rest of the cast, and one of the few who didn't seem like he was phoning it in every episode.

You nailed it. And that screen name is awesome.

Yep - or a GI Joe style slow camera pullaway, with everyone "laughing" by having their shoulders mysteriously shaking.

He even has a nice supporting turn in Layer Cake, I'd definitely recommend it if you haven't seen it already.

I had a weird affinity for Stargate: Universe even though I gave up on SG-1 pretty early on during its run, and couldn't even make it through a single episode of Atlantis. I was legitimately disappointed when they cancelled it after only two seasons.
