I think it looked cheap not because they didn't spend a lot on it(they did) but they have to sell this show not just to the geeks but to people that watch other network TV procedurals, and there's a certain aesthetic that those viewers are comfortable with—specific choices about colors, lighting, set decoration,…

What I have an issue with the term "puppy play" itself, which is unforgivably juvenile, unsexy and off-putting.

Simply put, there is nothing sexy about puppies. There is nothing hot about someone pretending to BE a puppy. I don't even want to hazard a guess what else "puppy play" entails but I am certain that I want no part of it.
