The 2nd time I finished watching this, with my girlfriend in 2004 and even knew exactly what was going to happen, I was in a state of panic.  I had trouble breathing, moving, and talking.  I was filled with utter dread that we were going to die horribly within the year, especially with an important election looming.

For me the most depressing/interesting aspect of Watchmen is that the question posed by the ending has now been answered.  If something inconceivably horrible happens to large numbers of New Yorkers would it bring the world's people closer together?  Thanks to September 11th it has been proven to be "absolutely not".

Spent the first 18 years of my life in NJ, still have parents there, and go back every year or so.

Yes!  A thousand times yes!

Le Show just got cancelled!  Or at least won't be airing on KCRW anymore.

I used to think that all Moon landing conspiracy people were utter morons and/or complete nutjobs as well.  But I've since backed up a little.  In no way did I begin to believe any of their theories though.

O Buckhead, was A Man in Full lame!  For researching that one I imagine a white-suited Tom Wolfe flagging down a black cab driver at the airport and asking to be taken around so he can [after glancing at a notecard] "get down with Atlanta".

She just found the books annoying to read to her kids.  Seriously, that was it.

I've not read the book but I did read a couple of Rosin's related articles at Slate.  For months straight that wretched click-baiting site pimped her book like it had some marital obligation to do so.  (Turns out it did since she's married to Slate's editor-in-chief.  Classy!)  She's been writing these 'end of men'

Sorcerer:
"No wizards, falsely-accused harlots, or magic of any kind.  (Except for the Hollywood magic of a very good movie about Roy Scheider driving dynamite through a jungle to blowout a burning oil well.)"

Holy crap, there are others just like me!

Just made my first and last attempt at watching Husbands.  It would have been my only Cassavetes movie.

Catching up on Netflix here, and yeah… I dunno about this one.  I found some pretty compelling stuff mixed in with a lot of clunkiness and English 101 literary devices.  By this point we don't need any more overt symbols of Walt's guilty conscience or things watching over him.  And that opening pretty much stayed

My first direct contact with a self-described objectivist was my first day of college.  When I got to my dorm room my next door neighbor was moving his stuff in too.  I poked my head into his room and introduced myself.  He was dressed all in black with glasses, had Robert Smith hair, and looked sweaty and nervous.
