The GZDoom engine lets you play Doom-engine games with full-on mouse support and vertical aiming. You can also play at much higher resolutions, which cleans up the picture and might reduce the feeling of pixel-nausea for some people.

That definitely is part of it. They also got fucked when they initially tried t clear the song, because the purported rights holder didn't actually have authority.

The way I understand it, the whole situation was not a huge object on Ocasek's radar and the issue was brought to him through a very limited lens and without a lot of meaningful context. If there's anyone to be pissed at here it's most likely the lawyers.
