I read "The Family that Couldn't Sleep" yesterday, a book about Prion diseases, because I was told that it would calm my fears about getting mad cow.  Well, the fear has not gone away, and I don't think the person who recommended it read it all that closely.

It really sucks when you see job postings for classes/jobs and you can sort of tell that they are intended for specific people.

You got paid how much more than me to be in this piece of shit?

Damn skippy.

This weekend I slow cooked a chuck roast with a sauce I made with chipotle, adobe, and negro chiles for about 10 hours. It wound up making the entire building smell of peppers and at the end the beef just fell apart.  Oddly, it did not taste as much like the peppers as I would have liked, but it still smelled

Thanks.

I made my girlfriend a flourless chocolate torte with a raspberry curd topping for her birthday.  It turned out great (moist and surprisingly light) and I'm looking to do some more gluten-free baking for her, but I don't know of a good cookbook to turn to (I got the recipe I used from my mom [professional baker]).

I always enjoyed Chimera, but my mother and I always nitpick and complain that it's set in Vermont at Easter, yet they have green grass and roses…wtf?  Where's the snow?  Where's the mud?

I would argue that book 7 is the last decent book, primarily because the Mat stuff is solid and actually is a decent portion of the book (at least compared to 8-11.

@drdarke:disqus  Well, Wikipedia tells me that "The Road Not Taken" was published in 1985, so perhaps it was the other way around?

Agreed.  Their constant bickering over how much garlic and pepper to use is delightful.

Harry Turtledove wrote a characteristically terrible short story about aliens who can travel faster than light but otherwise are technologically on the level of the 16th century as well.
