Sums him up perfectly.
Sums him up perfectly.
Talk show host is a much better role for him than being on SNL ever was. His persona is blithe, game, cheery, and completely free of any bitterness or irony. Moms love him (which is not intended as the insult it might seem)! The charm and mini giggles that were his undoing on SNL work really well in a talk show…
Coogan's choices baffle me sometimes. He writes, produces, and stars in some of the best shows ever made (Saxondale! The Trip!), run a production company that has a record of total excellence (The Mighty Boosh!), but seems totally willing to do lowbrow, boring stuff if it's in America. Why?
Don't lie: you want to see it as much (well, maybe not quite as much) as I do.
Go ahead and add me to the Johnny list. And, far more shamefully, the Yolo one.
@avclub-2036aea21d81a7c8ece0175625da1ee6:disqus I feel like we've had this conversation before. That line of his was like putting a foot to the gas pedal.
Though I did love the wink to Goggins's perfect teeth, the only thing about him that kept him from being 100% believable as a hillbilly.
Super Drew-pers
"I've dropped out, I've burned up, I've fought my way back from the dead."
There's a middle ground: He was annoyed that he had to sit in this shitty bar and decided to amuse himself by tweaking Ava and by creating discord by exposing Johnny.
A for sure. The only thing keeping it from being A+ is that Raylan and Tim didn't make out.
I can't wait to figure out Colt's endgame here!
On any other show, Johnny's "I love you" to Ava would have felt like poor, gimmicky writing. But they've done such a great job making Ava's undeniable better-ness than everyone else a part of her character that it just made sense.
Schmidt's best line since the Season of Schmidt
Agreed! What a waste of a perfectly adorable crush storyline. Maybe they'll bring Ivy back in a later episode so 1. she can have the chance to show up the miserable and untalented Coco and 2. she and Jinkx can fall in love for the cameras.
Oh man, is Justin Timberlake what we have to work with this afternoon?
I'd love to see Wonderfalls return in some capacity, but it just feels so quintessentially 2004 to me that I feel it would lose something if it were brought to 2013.
@avclub-58238e9ae2dd305d79c2ebc8c1883422:disqus You don't seem to be one of them, but there are certainly those who see people's decision to enjoy some aspect of culture without analyzing or artistically appreciating it as a reflection of some great flaw in character. These people are the jackasses.
The first half of that episode, though—where Harris and Scott catch up a bit and it turns into this discussion of how everyone's getting older and growing up but still throwing up in bushes while the baby's asleep downstairs—was the best Analyze Phish ever was.
@avclub-1b1f9a3e639ecc53f335314fc9d8403b:disqus I am impressed with your accounting. How do you keep track of all the movies you watch?
