Phil, originally little more than gadfly roommate, really became one of the series strongest characters. He and Adam were shining stars of fuck-up-ness this season.

Todd, I am appalled at your taste in Newbery award-winners. Obviously, "The Twenty-one Balloons" is the best, with "My Side of the Mountain" and "From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" a close second and third.

Watching him and Rebecca Front together in Grandma's HouseĀ proved to me that they are both incredibly gifted at making the seemingly insignificant into amazingly revealing character moments.

Exactly agreed (but you've phrased it far far better!). Plus the behind the scenes (literally and figuratively) manipulation regarding the Baroness, which displayed masterful plotting and rewarded viewers for their knowledge of the characters and the way the show's world operates.

For what it's worth, I think this episode might have been a work of collaborative genius. It did such a great job of developing the characters and finding the humor in the qualities of those characters while simultaneously building tension and drama.

There is no way this can be a B episode! A- AT LEAST.

This episode knocked it out of the park. Perfect character work, amazing plotting, and, despite being nothing but a series of interrogations, unbelievably hilarious.
