I used to be a SP superfan, and I had (among my embarrasingly huge collection of bootlegs) demos that were the source for a lot of those little snippets from that medley. Why is it on the air? Some people like cars and/or corny jokes. The hosts are smart and affable, and it's been on the air for so long that many people have grown up with it. It's an institution.

I'm with you in your reasonable, non-fire-breathing-rage dislike of the show @Renaton:disqus, but the thing is, a good portion of people who are thoughtful in their dislike of the show probably stopped watching and posting in the reviews a while back when they realized they didn't like it. Yeah, not a surprise, but it is nice that I managed to catch them live, which I can't say for a lot of my favorite music. Saw them in 2007, and the encore featured 10+ minutes of LMLYP with topless chicks from the audience onstage, so I'll always have that.

It seems like G2Gs have been declining in quality lately, but maybe it's just me. The 90s electronica one wasn't all that great either (although admittedly most of that was due to the amorphousness of the genre label).
