Damn, that is a hell of an ending and got me choked up way more than the actual finale.

This sounds like the drama equivalent of that Morgan Spurlock show where he tried to live on minimum wage for a month. All it proved was that Spurlock is an idiot.

The characters on The Middle (and Malcolm, for that matter) have flaws and weaknesses and make mistakes, but are inherently good people who care about each other.

SPOILER ALERT FOR RONIN

Careful, barbie.  Sometimes use of the word "libertarian" sends people into hissy fits around here.

"…won’t win Carey any screenwriting awards. But the film should win her
some fans, if for no other reason than it shatters the glass ceiling of
cumming-of-age comedies."

What is up with the libertarian hate?

Actually I think this could be an interesting show.  The bodybuilding world of the 70s was pretty fascinating.

As JP says, different vibe, particularly with the characters.  While the Middle and Malcolm characters are quirky fuckups but basically good people, the characters on Roseanne were just assholes.

Hiyo goddamn silver.

The Terminator: Salvation trailer had me so pumped up I'm surprised the subsequent pressure loss from actually watching the movie didn't kill me.

I totally get your point, but usually I like to watch as a moviegoer and at some later point reflect critically, and both are fun in their own ways.

I feel this way too.  Nolan's movies have so much emotional resonance with me, I'm not sure I can objectively criticize them.  When people say "Well why didn't Batman just do this instead" I'm like "Yeah, but you're missing the point!"

There have been exceptions, but this is fairly typical of AV Club reviews of political movies.
