It's interesting, because I drew the same parallel with Invention of Lying when I saw the movie, but didn't get that same message from the book (though I hadn't seen Lying at that point).  When I read the book, I went with the ending on the level of "the fantastical (story and religion) makes life better by being more

Since I seem to never have enough time for all the podcasts I listen to, I started skipping Undiscovered Project around episode 9 or 10.  I love Tompkins riffing, but the impressions for impressions sake don't do it for me.  I'm probably in the minority on this but I kind of prefer his CBB appearances as himself to

I do too, but these comments are making me rethink that policy.

@avclub-f121d09285898f1c66d66f1e6f0455a6:disqus I was under the impression that everything we saw was an appointment.  I think that is the only way to get to nine appointments, but also each one feels so artificial.  The way that Eva breaks into song, the way no one really seems to die.  At one point, I was wondering

A $230 million increase in 3 years would be quite impressive, if only it were true.  Damn you reality!

While I find myself having a difficult time arguing against the feeling of unalloyed victory that the movie delivers in the end, it still did not feel like a cheat to me.  Sure it's Hollywoodized and there is an implication that everything will be okay, but just moments before the Lawrence character is inappropriately

I really wanted to like this movie and there are certainly elements that work like gangbusters (basically everything from the build-up to the crash to its immediate aftermath - though physically upsetting?  C'mon Keith), but there were too many problems for me to embrace it entirely.  I've posted elsewhere about how
