I had the weirdest reaction to I Am Gemini, where on my first listen I actually kinda liked it and thought it was better than HH and Swollen, but on every subsequent listen it just sounded like a ghastly aural hangover.

Kinda weird to think of that joke as "late-period" Simpsons, as it comes less than halfway into the show's run. Not that I'm disagreeing, it just puts into perspective how for fans the past fifteen or so years of the show are all just one gray blur.
To me the biggest problem with the grimness of the reboot was how awkward it felt at times. If Lara is gonna be an unrepentant mass murderer through the gameplay, that doesn't really mesh with any kind of grounded story about anguish and survival and trauma. If I recall, there was some cutscene about how tortured…
Could you explain what you mean by "sequential art"?
She's good in Trophy Wife and Childrens Hospital.
We have very different cultural views on the value of the lives of common people than the Ancient Greeks, for one. I can see your point but I think the times and situations and cultures are just way too different to make that comparison. You wouldn't expect some cheeky comedy about AIDS to have come out during the…
When the poster and trailer for Stonewall came out, I did find it a little premature to already call for a boycott and write a million thinkpieces about it - after all, what if it was just massively terrible and misleading marketing and the movie wouldn't be nearly as bad when it came out?
I have no idea how respectful the actual movie will feel when it comes out, but I do think it's interesting that Spike Lee chided Tarantino for making a spaghetti western about slavery, on the basis that it's disrespectful to depict such a painful issue through such a cartoonish genre. Yet that seems like exactly what…
Would still love to see someone else take another crack at Watchmen in miniseries form. It's just too sprawling to have a single cohesive plotline to form the backbone of a movie (the Comedian murder mystery is kinda interesting but the larger story of the graphic novel's whole universe is much more interesting). I…
Patrick Wilson did a good job as Nite Owl II, even if Snyder mostly misunderstood the character. Malin Akerman though, jeez… it took me a bunch of her roles after seeing her in this to convince me that she's not actually a terrible actress.
I think it's a bit of both. The character is supposed to look like Superman. He's supposed to be the perfect physical specimen. No amount of nuanced acting could correct for how wrong Matthew Goode looked for the role. But his acting was also bad.
I want to believe that Renner would sound like a dying water buffalo, but he's actually got a really good voice. Observe: https://www.youtube.com/wat…
Stein often gets truly horrific dialogue. Garber's great but there's only so much he can do.
Because most of the episode itself was boring and predictable. And Jax isn't even gonna be a character on this show.
This is an excellent tip to step up your racism game to a whole new level.
Agree with you on principle but Rachel Bloom is great.
Well, wasn't expecting to come here and hear Joanna Newsom compared to death metal and black metal, but whaddaya know?
I actually think the first disc is miles better than the second and third. The latter two have some good songs scattered here and there but is comparatively a lot less memorable and the songs are less distinctive than the first one.
Oh come on. Teenage girls liking boy bands a whole, whole lot hurts absolutely nobody. Who cares that the thing they like is a little silly? Aren't some of the things you really, really like a little silly? Isn't that why we spend time on the AV Club? To talk about the silly things we really, really like?
I love him but I actually found the special to be just okay :/
