… Said the guy who is still playing rock concerts nearing age 70.

It's actually pretty amazing that he's kept that stunt from defining his career. I never would've predicted he'd come back from that in such a big way.

Clutch are bigger than you think they are. They actually chart pretty well.

Wow, I had a really different interpretation of this scene. To me, Hannah was not "bluffing" at all, and her parents were being negligent and awful. And even if they did think she was bluffing, it's a big fucking problem to treat someone's expression of suicidality as a bluff or a cry for attention even if you're

I see that maybe that was intended, but "Nightcrawler" had a much more developed critique of capitalism whereas "Foxcatcher" merely faintly suggested one.

True, although part of the point of the movie is that MLK isn't nearly as "middlebrow feel good liberal" as the watered-down, simplified way he's typically taught in schools.

For real though it's kinda weird to me that people feel like "Hollywood" has any ideology whatsoever. This is a business where David Goyer and Frank Miller and Clint Eastwood have the same success as Aaron Sorkin and Joss Whedon and Oliver Stone (and yes I'm aware those are all white men), and that's just discussing

Were I to venture a guess, I'd say that most people have come on board that Bradley Cooper is a good actor - just that playing an angsty soldier seems to be a much lower "degree of difficulty" role than MLK. But again, I haven't seen the movie and I don't know how much Cooper does or does not transcend what seems like

Wasn't his "body transformation" just facial hair? Oyelowo actually went through much more of a body transformation just in the sense that, as Devin Faraci pointed out, the entire shape of his face changed to play the role (he looked much different on the red carpet than in the movie). I haven't seen "Grand Budapest"

"Whiplash" was definitely the most intense movie of the year for me. "Foxcatcher" is kinda the opposite - low-key and it ultimately feels like a bit of a shrug.

The film needed more of that actually. The Golden Eagle line is hilarious but it was the only instance where he fully came off as an evil demented version of Michael Scott. Otherwise it struggled to have any take on him at all.

It was atmospheric and well-photographed, and the performances were all *good* (especially Ruffalo) if not especially revelatory. The writing lacked focus and failed to crack the psychological mysteries of the main relationships, and it failed to give a compelling reason as to why Channing Tatum's was the main

I've seen it twice and had interesting conversations about it both times. I think it's a perfectly cromulent movie.

Eh, last season wasn't great but it was definitely better than season 4.

I was *so* worried he was gonna say his family was from Hiroshima or Nagasaki. Even by this show's standards that joke would have just been way too bleak and not funny at all. Like you I was really glad they didn't go that way.

Overall I like the show a lot more than you do, but there are some of these points that I agree with to some extent. I also felt that in general the first half of s2 was much stronger than the second half. The first half was extremely tight and focused, with the character motivations clearly laid out. S2 didn't let up

I don't agree with you but I nevertheless found this point well-argued and really interesting so, upvote it is.

People seem to forget that the second half of Arrow s2 aired in 2014. The first half of season 3 was good-not-great, but the second half of s2 is easily good enough for the show to be on my top 20 and maybe even my top 10. A couple of those episodes were among my favorite episodes of the year.

I love Gene but he might be my least favorite of the main characters too. Which is more a testament to how amazing this show's characters are than to anything wrong with Gene as a character.

You didn't see that Mad Men episode?
