This is true! One of the things the show clumsily wants to be about is women's rights in the Middle East. But it doesn't really know how to do that and keeps tripping over itself. This would sort of instantly force it to grapple with that issue on a level more dramatically interesting than a Newsweek opinion column.

I LOVE Leftovers, and Strain is junky fun.

Yes, that was the ONLY criticism I made of the project, not that it's, y'know, incredibly boring.

Yeah, this actually surprised me. (I commented on that a few days ago.) I figured comedies would have a very slight advantage, by favor of having episodes that work better as standalones.

Logistically, it would be impossible to have everybody view and vote on every match up. It was enough of a headache having everybody view and vote on the final.

Yeah, I wish this had happened, too.

Sure! That's why I think the commentary aspect should probably be a part of this if it happens next year.

I mean, if we had an infinite number of possible judges to choose from, sure. But we pretty much had the pool of judges we had. Given how the tournament was laid out, finding people who could judge everything in complete and utter fairness and objectivity was impossible. Again: The arbitrariness is the point. You're

I have resisted commenting on the Tournament for a variety of reasons, mostly stemming from the fact that it was my baby, and nobody likes an over-protective parent. But now seems as good a time as any to answer a few recurrent questions.

My new job wouldn't let me write reviews here. Just the way it has to be. I don't know who will cover Mad Men here, but I'm sure it will be someone amazing (hopefully Sonia!). I will be writing about it over at Vox, though.

Rectify's first season ended May 20, 2013, and the beginning of this Emmy eligibility period is June 1, 2013. Meanwhile, season two began Thursday, which comes AFTER the cutoff date, which is May 31, 2014.

This is actually true. I think what's going on here is that there was a fairly large but stable CORE group of commenters for many, many years, and then that group started to expand, to the point where we now have many different diverse groups of commenters who don't really interact with each other (the Newswire set is

I think I agree with this.

I will still be writing reviews and other stuff regularly over at Vox.com. I won't be far away!

Next week's Twilight Zone review is my last episodic review for The A.V. Club.

I didn't write this review, though!

It was a loose criterion, but the judges were also told to pick their favorite, no matter what. They were asked to consider in the process of doing so, however, which ones worked better watched in a vacuum. When you get to my match, you'll see how this factored into my thinking!

Believe me, it's in there.

I hope you realize how excellent the Vox Media commenting system (which I have not actually implemented at Vox and possibly won't be able to) is!

You're damn right I'm Dany.
