If you like Marvin Gaye's music you're better off not learning too much about Marvin Gaye the man. Dude was kind of a creep.

They still have those, usually at ski-areas for summer time income. There's one near me:

I can't hear you over the crystal clear highs and booming lows of my Trans Am's Sparkomatic.

I think Harder they Come qualifies…depends on how strict folks want to define the hypothetical rules for blacksploitation. That's a fun one if only for the music, but it took me multiple viewings to figure out what the fuck was going on plot-wise. In the same vein, "Rockers" probably qualifies too (of which I was

Yes! We had a BBJ conversation (ok, quote-off) last week, and I had a nearly identical experience in high-school in the late '80s. BBJ was for some reason on a nearly endless loop in whatever the version of cable pay-per-view was at the time (along with the Shaw Brothers' Chinese Super Ninjas, which similarly

Good point. Truck Turner is totally entertaining, and shares enough cast with Black Belt Jones that I have to think there was some connection.

Oh yeah, good call! I love that one too…I think I've seen it advertised as a sequel to BBJ, but I don't think I'm buying it. As you say, it's not quite up to the quality of Black Belt, but it sure sounds good on paper…there's a dwarf in the jungle with a whip! The warlock! Snakes! A jetpack! Jim Kelly fights a bird!

*Shrug* I'm arguing that most blacksploitation flicks are overly long and boring, which is kind of the antithesis of punk, regardless of the brotherhood of technical shortcomings. I dunno that the analog serves much purpose (other than to paint me on the side of something else that is universally accepted/loved).

That sounds good, McDonalds!

They all absolutely have their moments, and they're great in concept, but they also all tend to drag for at least a half-hour of their running time, 45 minute ideas padded out by 45 minutes of bad sleep-written dialog about 'the man' and/or nightclub scenes with horrible '70s jazz funk.

Put a sock in it asshole. Feel free to disagree with my opinion, but don't try and paint me as some elitist film snob after a post quoting Avenging Disco Godfather and recommending Black Belt Jones.

You're not my mama! The problem with most Rudy Ray Moore movies is the problem with most blacksploitation flicks (including all the "classics" listed above): they're not very good. I mean, that should be obvious, but even with the Dolemite movies, which are the absolute bottom of the barrel, the repeated examples of

I absolutely love that their songs are expositional, occasionally even going into plot details that haven't happened yet.

While I dunno that it could be argued that superhero movies are collectively choking out 'good' movies in general, I do think it could be argued that superhero movies potentially do choke out other roles for some of the specific actors who take on the lead roles in these (or other brand) franchises . Fortunately, the

Yuss! A couple years ago a theater around here showed BBJ on the big screen, it was glorious!

Mr. Pinkus, I think you're treacherous.

I love me some Black Belt Jones…..the residuals probably weren't so great, though. Also, for some reason Big Tuna is the only character in the movie with obviously dubbed dialog…maybe Vincent was just bad at talkin'.

On Demand after the credits they had some folks from the show who pretty explicitly explained the scene, and you hit it on the head pretty good. She feels like everything her god has shown her has been false, and catching her reflection in the mirror, realizes that even extends to herself.

Man, they are REALLY digging to the bottom of the barrell for these holiday movies….I can hardly wait for the Data Privacy Day, or CAPS LOCK DAY feature films.

Well, how would you know if you had? Never being in Whole Foods, Starbucks or convenience stores removes 3 possible places, I don't frequent those particular places either, but all the supermarkets/banks/mental-institutions I DO frequent still subject me to incidental music. Don't own a TV? Haven't been to a movie
