I think once the DVD went out of print people kept the discs…

I *started* watching Blue Velvet with my parents. At first it was just slow and not their style….then….. we didn't finish watching. I don't think my parents trusted any of my film recommendations after that.

Did you just suggest that Secretary is a bad first date movie? I guess only if it isn't the hottest first date movie ever. It's one of those things that can go either way I suppose.

Maybe someone could launch a magazine that was dedicated to reviewing and critiquing Apps! It could be like Run Magazine was to the Commodore.

Ricky Jay is one of my favorite magician of all time. I wish I could get one of his specials on DVD.

Zach, that's one of the most dead-on parodies of mamet I've read. Awesome!

Wait…. he was a cannibal?

Sybil: I hope you managed the appropriate response: You need to have a sense of humor when you've been persecuted for thousands of years.

Maslin wasn't 100% but I loved her viewpoint, and she was the only major critic I'm aware of that didn't immediately dismiss Eyes Wide Shut. Whether it's correct or not, her review made an attempt to appreciate the movie, which I loved.

Mistakes
I know at this point no one will notice this, but I wanted to point out that I watched 10 min of At the Movies tonight (the only time I've ever seen it with Ben Lyons) and the titles on the screen misidentified which Ben was on the screen 4 times. 4 Fucking Times!

What???
Why is this in the Most Read list?!!

well
life moves fast….

Julie/Julia
Has anyone both seen the film and read the book? I see lots of people commenting about how annoyingly self-absorbed the Julie character is, but that doesn't match my memories of the blog. Unless, I guess, you find all bloggers annoyingly self-absorbed.

You've Got Mail is one of the worst and most offensively sexist movies I've ever seen.

but *was* that intentional? Making Julie a self-absorbed twat isn't in keeping with the story in the blog. (I've only read the blog when she was writing it. Never read the book) I loved the blog. It really was about a woman struggling to come to grips with her life and her place in the world. The ads I've seen sure

RRW is a beautiful, beautiful film. A wonderful western noir. I'm not sure how Dahl has never managed to make another film as good. (not that he hasn't made other good films, but this is the best)

I agree with mizerock up there (ignoring the Hulk thread): what in the world does this movie have to do with GI Joe? Those previews are bewildering.

what? the biker is supposed to be Hi's father?!!!!

I'm just confused that you thought Raising Arizona was wack. That's one of my favorite comedies of all time.

Not to turn this into another theological discussion, but isn't that attitude toward guilt pretty much a pre-Vatican II thing? Does it still go on anywhere? I ask honestly, because it makes me wonder if it's going to be something that fewer and fewer people identify with as time goes on..
