Agreed.  They even set up the Federation President as weak-willed and indecisive (maybe not quite a Neville Chamberlain type, but close), so when a compenent admiral whom Sisko respects thinks he'd be a better leader, you can see where he's coming from.

While I'm being grumpy, Crossfire is an episode in desperate need of a B-story.  It's just so by-the-numbers, and each plot beat goes on for too long.  Shakaar is only slightly less bland than Bareil and fits the standard mold of a powerful man who is uncomfortable being powerful, so we like him.  Then the whole bit…
