A few things:
If there is an English novel/movie/TV show where an upperclass woman has a long, happy relationship with someone of a lower class, I can't think of it - Brits seem to me to be very squeamish about violating their culture's caste status quo.
So I'm trying to figure out whether this film supports torture or not, and the reviewer, who resorts to the ever-popular 'some people say' says:

I enjoy this show and think it has been pretty consistent thus far, which leads to quite a bit of head-scratching when it comes to the vacillating 'grades' I see here and claims that it's a shadow of its former self, or that an episode is a 'return to its former glory'.

Wait - you have that hokey pablum "End of Watch" here but NOT Moonrise Kingdom?

It makes me sad the way the av club TV critics get so bogged down in autobiography (in the day to day reviews) and biography.

This show isn't terrible - but the 3 plot thread set-up of an older/younger woman singer and the emerging duet seems like a fine idea for something with a definite end (a movie or mini-series) but as a TV show which aims to continue on indefinitely, I'm not seeing how it will work.

Evan showed himself to be an asshat feigning adoration of Dahlia because if he won her over it would be a boost to his ego and raise his status at school. He has no actual interest in any meaningful emotional investment.

It might have worked if there was some sort of context, that her husband responded to these kinds of hijinks or some old boyfriends - but out of context it was just weird.
