It looks like they are using Will's absence to give some much-needed screen time to the excellent actors who play the other lawyers in the firm, which was fine by me. The inter-office intrigue that took place as Will and Dianne fought each other for control of the firm in season 2 was fun.

Does anyone really have hair like Matthews?

She's OK.

Jeesh, are you a Brit by any chance?

I really enjoy the show, but sure wish the plotting was a little classier and less obviously soap-ish (Mathew's miraculous recovery then his later turning on Mary after his fiance dies is like soap opera 101). I mean, it is possible to do this kind of thing better than it is being done here.

Amazing opening shot, I just wanted to jump out of my seat and shout in the theater: "do you people realize what a great fucking shot this is!"

Satantango should really only be seen in a movie theater, where you HAVE to sit there and can't pause a player to go get a snack, answer the phone or whatnot. I think being forced to sit and watch makes it more possible to fall under it's 'spell', where even though its really long, the time just seems to fly by.

I have to say I felt Damntain went kind of overboard in the 'depressing' department, and I am a huge fan of Satantango.

Can't wait! Hope to see it tomorrow on opening day.

Yes, let none of us forget he is a performer, and while there ARE some shy ones out there - many get into the biz because they like to be the center of attention.

Oswalt's character is a dramatic contrivance - there to serve as the 'anti-Mavis'. Oswalt was well-cast and performed the part well, but I just was not that enthusiastic about the character and do am not put out by him not getting a nomination.

Broadcast News ain't all that.

Drive was a pretentious conflation of smoke and mirrors with only one good thing about it (Albert Brooks) - one of the few things the Academy did right was not to nominate it for best pix.

Sounds like films like "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs", "Cars 2" and "Tangled" are right up your alley.

Its as good a reason to be interested in these sham awards as any.

Great point! I think the  major point of true dramatic interest of this ceremony will be whether or not Malick shows up.

The Descendants may win the awards that  "About Schmidt" should have won but didn't (because it was too much of a 'downer")

It's always  a pleasant surprise when people who really do something truly great actually win an oscar for it.

The sad thing about the oscars is its the first thing that goes on obituaries of people connected to the film biz…
