As I was watching the end of the episode, I wasn't for a second buying the siring theory; my main objection to it wasn't the possibility that it might be true, just that it seemed such a clumsily obvious red herring. For Stefan it's just another excuse to fix Elena. For Caroline it was a convenient explanation for a

I have to say, Todd Akin's comments had nothing to do with simple ignorance. The inescapable corollary of his assertion that someone who was "legitimately" raped can't get pregnant is that any pregnant woman who claims to have been raped is in fact a lying whore who wants to murder her baby. That's

I agree with you that the climax of the show was definitely Elena and Stefan confronting the emotional as well as plot momentum of the show. For all the plot driven insanity this show loves to bring, it all works because of the epiphanies all that melodrama manages to bring forth. And not in a superficial "So, this is

They didn't pick him. They just chose to go along when Klaus picked him. Their hands aren't clean, but I don't think they're so blackhearted as you seem to make them out to be. Or that's how I see it, anyway.

First, I have to ask: am I the only one who immediately assumed that the cure for vampirism would involve the blood of a living immortal? I am? OK.

Not much to say this week. I'm marginally more upbeat about where the story is going now that it seems like the cure is something Stefan is going to try to inflict on Elena rather than being presented as a solution to whatever. Wicked self-centered Stefan is more fun than always right Stefan.

THAT'S who he reminded me of! Thank you, that's been bugging me all day.

I never thought Bonnie was reacting to the blood. I feel that it's a case of "That's terrible! What are you doing having fun with the horrible mean boy?!" It's a flash of self-righteous certainty that is painfully juvenile, and I have so been hoping that the Bonnie character is growing out of it.

I'm trusting that the writers know that this isn't Elena's flaw. Elena has more than once acknowledged that Stefan was in many ways the safe choice: in a world where so much gets lost so easily, an immortal boyfriend sure seems like a godsend. (Although given the undead body count on this show, that appears to be a
