Wow. If I want to be able to afford those, I'll need to get working, man.

I'll have you know that's a legit Bay City, MI accent.

He was solid in Hesher.

Right you are. So because the guy is standing and the ref counts to eight, it's easy to see how that could be mistaken for a standing eight count.

I think reckoner is referring to those scenarios where there’s
a flash knockdown, or where the ref calls a knockdown because the ropes are holding a guy up, and the guy is basically standing up for the entire count. So the ref does a perfunctory count, stopping at eight since he has to stop somewhere and the standing

These are all valid points*, but where we differ is I don't think they will ever "kill" the sport, or even come close. Partly because boxing has been dealing with those issues for a long time already and partly because of your final sentence. There's nothing else in sports that can complete with boxing at its best.

So did baseball. Does this mean baseball is dying too?

No one can say the HW division is in the midst of a golden era right now (boxing people lament this all the time), but that's not to say it could never happen again. As recently as the 90s, there were many major HW fights involving Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, Bowe, Moorer and others. As I mentioned above, there are a

Well, I think most casual sports fans know who the Klitschkos are, so I don't love that example, but your point is taken. I do think there are a couple up and coming heavyweights that could reignite the popularity of that division in the coming years (namely Deontay Wilder, Bryant Jennings, and Anthony Joshua).

Girls have no place commenting on a boxing thread.

This. Someone who thinks an entire sport is about one participant. Exactly what I'm complaining about.

Not really. There are many people who are fans of both (I am not one of those people), so it's not really a zero sum thing. For a time it seemed like MMA was "taking over" just because it was a new entertainment option and was growing at a faster rate than boxing because of its novelty. But I think its popularity

Everything is popular amongst its fans. Not the point. The point is that boxing has a lot more fans than many realize.

Indirectly I suppose. If my comment seemed defensive, it's just because that claim gets old to those who are actual fans of the sport. Especially since no one who knows the sport ever makes that argument, so it's kind of a red flag that the person saying it is not speaking from a knowledgeable standpoint. Didn't

First and foremost, I'd like to thank Al Haymon…

This is cool and will be successful. Boxing is far more popular than people who don't follow the sport assume that it is. I've said it here before: The only people who throw around the "boxing is dead/dying" cliche are people who have no idea what they're taking about.

It's a grate way to get off.

Man. Really wish I knew who you're all referring to.

This character is brilliant. His first appearance on Weekend Update was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Look up the video of him doing voice-over work for a cartoon on YouTube if you've never seen it before.
