That's a better point than the one I was hung up on. Context is everything.

I was hesitant to go into detail on that matter because it involves C. Nolan and this is the internet after all…
I don't think the character is layered and complex. I used it as a counter example because I feel that it represents the spirit of chaos, which I think works much better than Gyp, who is just the spirit of…

It seems like, having written off a character (Jimmy) who worked off of others in an organic fashion and was so integral to the narrative, the writers have decided to throw in a character who is inherently antagonistic, regardless of social context. I have a tendency to be suspicious whenever a writer or filmmaker…

I liked season one and I loved season two but I'm starting to sour. Am I the only one who rolls his eyes everytime Gyp shows up in a scene? Nucky's remarks about his easily offended nature don't so much hang a lampshade (see tvtropes.org) as make me feel like the writers are rubbing my face in how lazy this…

That's a fair point. I suspect they wouldn't have stayed in such a bad financial situation if he had just been honest with her. Not telling her and playing a game of being wealthy-but-"temporarily"-prudent rather than just (gasp!) middle-class is probably why he wound up in debt and struggling for so long.

The past couple weeks recaps from AV Club and others have been bothering me whenever they say that the Lane problem comes out of no where. Has everyone forgotten the moment from the premiere when Lane mentioned the thin finances to his wife? Something about how they couldn't do something and had to be careful for…

I was just thinking the same thing. He's spent 3 years doing everything he could to stay in the US of A. This time, there were no lawn mowers or executive to "fire".
