Interesting that Scott finds Cole to be Kurtz-like. I had that in my mind when watching the two eps last night, and I noticed that in both episodes the monster was the ghost of a white person visiting the area and not a native. I wonder if it's deliberate, and if so, what's the reason?

For what it's worth, I actually have been to a Big Bang Theory taping a couple years ago. The episode where Sheldon is trying to get a driver's license.

That's not such an unusual name. James Watt invented the steam engine.

I felt as indifferent to this book as I do about Lana Del Ray.

Unknown is a really silly, fun movie. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. But yeah, her performance was not terribly compelling.

I clicked on this wondering if Wilfred had aired a new episode or a special.

I'll probably be finished with Deadwood season 3 next week and was thinking of starting Carinvale next and catching up with the reviews, but when I checked HBO Go yesterday Carnivale had been removed from the list. I'm positive it was on there before. What the heck, HBO? I don't have the HBO Go line-up memorized or

First Class is easily the best X-Men movie, agreed.

Sorry to say that @ replying multiple people in one comment doesn't seem to work or I'd make sure to notify everyone, so if anyone comes back and reads this by chance, I want to say "Thank you!" for all of the thoughtful recommendations and for not being upset with me for not liking something you like.

Thanks very much!

It's hard to explain. I don't know if I like anime fights or not, but I enjoy a well-choreographed fight in many live-action martial arts and action movies.

A few questions:

It sounds like my main exposure to anime (including shows I've seen bits of but haven't really watched) has been this shonen-action type then, which led me to believe that's what anime was, more or less. My mistake.

Not at all!

Thanks! I'm not sure what that would be, but I'll keep it in mind when filtering anime recommendations.

Thanks for the recommendations! I wouldn't necessarily say I hated Cowboy Bebop or FLCL, I just didn't feel any "like" for them. Not enough to want to watch more of the same, certainly.

Thanks for the recommendations! I couldn't find the first two you mentioned on Netflix, but the other two are available for streaming. My "to watch" stack is already leagues tall but I'll keep them in mind if I feel like giving it another go.

I get what you're saying, but is anime really as broad a medium as sitcoms? I've always thought of anime as being a sub-genre of cartoons. I love cartoons, from Avatar to Adventure Time to the Simpsons to Pixar.

Though I like this show, and have for a while, for whatever reason I've always had the nagging feeling that any episode now it'll take a turn and become complete shit. I don't know if it's residual issues from Heroes or what, but that's how I've felt.

If I watched the first six episodes of Cowboy Bebop and the entirety of FLCL and didn't really enjoy either of them, is it fair to say I don't like anime? It's important to me to try every type of thing and give different experiences an honest chance, but I think at this point I've determined anime isn't for me.
