This is a great tribute, and I hate to say one random thing jumped out at me: a rein/reign error. As a society, we're at about 99% incorrect use of "reign" these days, and I fear we may lose the correct use completely.

As Michel might say, he is very interested in doing his job, which is the management of an inn and not playing board games with children.

This seems as good a place as any to mention that while Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is merely okay, Sean Gunn having a bigger part is a marvelous delight.

The moral onus, yes. But the strangers clearly having failed that, the question becomes, should you have expected otherwise, and is it really worth responding to.
