I tried to like this twice, but it just un-liked it.  Anyway, bravo.

My problem with Vera is that she's purely evil, and she seems to do everything she does out of spite or sheer malevolence, as Meredith put it.  Whatever made Bates marry such a person?  We have never seen a different side of her.  Even Sir Richard gets a touch of humanity.

See every other TV show ever made for newborn babies that look at least 10 months old.

Really? That's the saddest part?  Different times!

I think she was supposed to be pretty young in the first episode—maybe only fifteen or sixteen—that's why they cast such a young-looking actress.  She does have a babyface, but she's obviously in her mid- to mid-late-twenties.

There's a couple little moments like this sprinkled throughout the series.  There's a similar thing in the Christmas special, though I won't go into any more detail than that.  It's similar, but different.

She hated him before that, though.  Why would she help Thomas carry out the "snuff box incident" if she didn't?

Meredith, you've clearly never seen a "newborn" baby on TV before.  What, they're going to shine those bright lights in an infant's face?

Fuck you!

Doc, I applaud you for carrying the torch for the pretty, pretty princess of yesteryear.

To me, Branson's description of Sybil's current job seemed accurate.  She's not nursing much anymore; those officers are convalescing.  As Dr. Clarkson said, it's more about good food and clean sheets than actual medical knowledge.  Come on, the guys are playing ping pong and shtupping housemaids around the clock.

I noticed Mrs. Patmore in an episode of Blackadder!  Unfortunately, it wasn't one of the WWI episodes, but it was cool to see her.  She's one of my favorite characters/actresses on DA.  The Dowager Countess always gets the credit for withering remarks, but I think some of Mrs. Patmore's zingers take the cake.

Erm, he's not that good looking.  And I haven't seen any evidence of a sixpack.  Not that the appearance of one would change my opinion.

Isobel is just a martyr.  She made it perfectly clear that she wasn't leaving because she couldn't do good work; she was leaving because her work wasn't appreciated.  She didn't care about helping wounded soldiers (ahem, officers) so much as everyone saying how wonderful she is for helping wounded soldiers.  So when

To me, O'Brien doesn't seem nearly old enough to be Thomas' mother.  Not enough of an age difference.  I looked on IMDB, and Siobhan Finneran (O'Brien) was born in '67; Rob James-Collier was born in '76.  Now I know that real-life age difference doesn't mean much on movies and TV, but really, you all are way too

"German flag, please!" was my favorite throwaway line.

Gah, "for all intensive purposes" is almost as bad as "nukular" and "I could care less."

I had to scroll down way too far to find this comment.

It's true, season 2 Matthew is more manly, less puffy, and no longer sports those distracting blond highlights.  Plus, he can get erections now!

Yeah, cause wearing hats turns them into gentlemen
