The Thin White Duke Ellington

It was an episode of Masters of Horror, but I enjoyed Jenifer a fair bit.

I'm not ashamed to say I've made the "Oh, let's stay to the end of the credits to see Nick Fury invite [blank] to be in the Avengers" joke during the credits of about ten films.

Aw, thanks @avclub-cfe912f5cb3aa572bd1c9ae2a9b82207:disqus ! I had a bad day today, and the wild and jarring tone changes on American Horror Story are a bright remember of happier days.

Profoundly so!

I wish she'd come back, she was so perfect. One of the most interesting side characters on that show.

I watched the first few episodes with my roommate and she loved it. A few days later I got a text from her that read "Skin angels. Why the fuck would you think I'd like this show?"

If they cast Brian Blessed, I'd watch the fucking thing.

I'm excited for The Meccano Movie: it's just two hours of very detailed, accurate construction projects being undertaken by European workers. At the end of the film, the project manager goes out for a cappuccino.

Run in with a school disciplinarian of his own, perhaps?

I served her a drink at a TIFF event this year! She seemed very nice!

America's got Dano Fever!

This is surprising. I really, really liked Prisoners but holy shit it is not a crowd pleasing movie. It's profoundly upsetting - I'm surprised that audiences seem to be reacting rather positively to it (there was a fair bit of applause at the end of my screening).

I'd classify Nirvana-era Dave Grohl as an extremely good drummer (He's even better now), plus he was smart enough to know when to keep things simple. He was a perfect fit for the band.

I really enjoy Christgau, but it's "vague, unsupported" complaints that drive the whole of his adversary. His incredibly short reviews/dismissals of albums really rub a lot of people the wrong way - when he labels a whole album a "bomb" with a sentence dismissal it's hard for the fans of this work to get past that

It's interesting, you'd think that a website that writes as infrequently on jazz as the AV Club would be awful at it, but I've enjoyed every one of their jazz features on this site.

Christgau is particularly non-awful in his jazz writings, mainly because he cops to being a neophyte in the field.

Fun Eric Dolphy fact: He plays the iconic flute part on Quincy Jones' Soul Bossa Nova. THE MORE YOU KNOW ABOUT OBSCURE JAZZ HISTORY!

Aw, I like Make The Bus.

Kim Novak is definitely the best actress of the Hitchcock Blondes.

The new episodes will star the same ensemble cast that launched the
show, with James Bachman and the much in-demand Olivia Colman confirmed
for the new run.
