Friend or Foe
Friend or Foe
That makes sense. I remember the first time I heard Fela Kuti, I thought "he sounds like an African James Brown."
Okay. I apologize for the hostile tone. It's just one of my pet peeves to see people say "why isn't anyone talking about x?" when they're perfectly capable of starting a conversation about x. And that's not quite what you were doing.
If you want a moral critique, then go ahead and post one, instead of whining about the lack of one.
I've long argued that James Brown was the most important musician of the 20th century (though a good case can be made for Louis Armstrong).
I remember Armadillo being absolutely terrifying.
Headphone Princess, I've held plenty of jobs where I was the only black person in the office, I spent damn near my entire post-elementary school academic career as one of the only black people in the classroom. But if you're arguing that "it's not straight-forward" to hire more diversely because of those reasons, I…
Every hire comes with their own burdens. Neither of these seem to be enough to reject hiring diversity.
So since the print market is in bad shape, they can only afford to hire white critics? I didn't realize that white people worked cheaper than the rest of us.
No way they would have been friends. Crassus was a scheming social climber, a classier and smarter and richer version of Batiatus. No way Spartacus would want to spend much time around him.
Seven seasons, and The Shield finale is easily the best, in my opinion.
I'm been doing the same and just noticed it for the first time as well.
You have got to watch Gods of the Arena. That was the peak season of this show, in my opinion. It was firing on all cylinders from minute one.
Yeah, I thought I had prepared myself for anything going into this episode, but Crassus crucifying Kore just left me completely dumbstruck.
Rip Tongue from Throat (Favorite quote):
"There is but one path. We kill them all."
I've been rewatching the first season, and Episode 4, The Thing In The Pit, has become a crucial episode for me. Every fight, every challenge Spartacus has faced since then, I find myself thinking "oh, he survived the Pit, he can survive this."
I tried to pay a dollar for it, but Paypal wasn't cooperating, so I went back and downloaded it for free. I guess my willingness to pay plumments at the slightest inconvenience.
I don't think The Shield is the best show ever (The Wire, imo), but I think it easily owns the best series finale ever title.
Loved the show, but I have a huge problem with the pilot. The Vic Mackey that I watched for 7 seasons wouldn't have killed Terry, he would have found a better way to handle him. Killing Terry at the end of the pilot served to shock the audience, to declare that Vic was not a good guy. But over the course of the next…
Yeah, I went back to watch season 1, and episode 1 is even worse than I remember. And I thought it was bad at the time. But it's really embarrassingly bad. When I recommend the show to people now, I just tell them to skip episode 1.
