The bit with the oncoming train was the best part of that clip.

I haven't seen any of this arty stuff you're referring to, but I'll go ahead and, like, totally agree anyway.
There's room for both kinds I think.
It's a beautiful film.
True. But I suspect it's the slick visuals, over the top delicious looking movie star types and complete lack of reality that makes it go down. The Long Walk, or at least a faithful version, would be the opposite of that. No sexy cool chick with a badass bow or any such things, just a bunch of young guys being gunned…
It's one of the best action scenes ever. Probably, maybe…
It wasn't ripped off from The Raid, just one of those things. Pure coincidence.
I would watch that reality show.
Yeah, that's true. But in those cases I wouldn't think the main problem is the jittery camera, but rather the shit in front of it.
I could say when I think of action movies I think of Raiders of the Lost Ark or The Dark Knight, that doesn't mean Die Hard or Commando aren't action movies. Some films dip into other genres, but still stay within the genre they're predominantly a part of. Alien is a science fiction film, but that's not mainly what it…
Since when did it became a rule that there had to be hand to hand combat in an action film? I was replying to Afghamistam's question, not talking about Universal Solider as such.
Just because something is extremely well made doesn't mean it isn't part of the genre it's obviously part of. The Shining is a haunted house…
I don't even remember that one.
There's lots of other stuff going on too (it's long), it's a melodrama and a thriller, but yeah, it's definitely an action film. A short description could be cops vs robbers, that says pretty much where we're at.
Dredd was amazing. You're spot on about the Carpenter comparison. Some serious Assault on Precinct 13 vibes, only with a big budget and science fiction trappings and what have you. Shame it bombed and bummer that it came out right after The Raid.
I think it can be incredibly effective when done right and the knee jerk reaction to it is getting a little silly. The Bourne films are still some fantastic action films, Well, the original three, haven't seen that other one.
Probably why it hasn't been made. And won't get made.
Darabont has played with the idea for a long time, but I suspect it's just that little bit too dark and nasty.
She wouldn't even have been at the dance.
It doesn't mean what it used to though, does it?
As an homage to the movie magic technique used in the original, it's gravely out of hand.
